Why we started running El Camino

El Camino de Costa Rica is a trail built and maintained by the rural communities it passes through. We saw a route that let hikers cross the entire country on foot — Caribbean to Pacific, through the Cordillera de Talamanca — while staying with the same families who help keep the trail open, and built our guided programs around making that crossing safe, logistically simple, and genuinely connected to those communities.

How we operate

Every departure is led by certified hiking guides, with local Indigenous guides brought in where the route requires it. Groups stay small. Accommodation, meals, and daily luggage transport are handled for you, and every program includes accident insurance and an evacuation protocol — decisions about weather, river levels and pacing are made by people who know this specific terrain.

What we won't do

We don't promise wildlife sightings, guaranteed weather, or availability we haven't confirmed. We'll tell you honestly how demanding a given program is and help you pick the one that fits your fitness and timeline, rather than upselling the wrong itinerary.
